Dear Friend,
Eat Cake and Lose Weight?
I know it sounds incredible.
And a lot of websites out there make these
kinds of claims.
That's why I am going to show you a multitude
of scientific articles, so you can form your
own opinion.
And No...
I am not suggesting you can sit on your couch all day eating cake and
still lose weight.
But Yes...
If you eat healthily and exercise regularly the science strongly
suggests that these low carb recipes will help your excess weight fall
off..
Read on- and you will find out about two natural ingredients that
promote weight loss.
You will as surprised and delighted as I was when I made this
discovery.
But First...
Why your low carb diet may not be working...
Let me introduce myself quickly.
My name is Sheena MacLennan. This journey started a year ago when I was
looking for a way to get rid of post pregnancy pounds. I scoured the
internet looking for sweet, low carb recipes but I wasn't sure what to
make of all the various sugar replacements.
As a journalist I have a strong skeptical streak. So I decided to do my
research.
Agave syrup seemed like a great low glycemic solution.
But in fact agave is worse for you than ordinary sugar!
Agave syrup is a refined product that is composed of up to 90%
fructose. This is very hard for the body to process. In fact fructose
is more readily converted to fat and easier to store as excess pounds
on your body compared to other nutrients. Take a look at a recent
study:
32 overweight men and women were instructed to drink a sweetened drink
three times a day. In one group the drinks were sweetened with glucose
and in the other group they were sweetened with fructose.

Ten weeks later both groups had gained three pounds, but not in the
same place. The fructose group gained a disproportionate amount of
abdominal fat - the most dangerous type of fat!
The fructose group also had a worsening of blood glucose control and
insulin sensitivity.(Kimber, Stanhope, Schwarz et al; "Consuming
fructose-sweetened, not glucose-sweetened, beverages increases visceral
adiposity and lipids and decreases insulin sensitivity in
overweight/obese humans" 2009)
I threw out my agave.
Then I read surprising new research on artificial sweeteners.
Artificial sweeteners promote weight gain in rats...
Let's take a look at the research:
Researchers fed two groups of rats yoghurt.
In the first group the yoghurt was sweetened with sugar. In the second
group it was sweetened with saccharin.
The researchers noticed that over two weeks the rats given saccharin
yoghurt ate more than the other rats. Apparently their appetite had
been stimulated.
What's more they gained more weight and their body fat increased.
"The data clearly indicate that consuming a food sweetened with
no-calorie saccharin can lead to greater body-weight gain and adiposity
than would consuming the same food sweetened with a higher-calorie
sugar."(Swithers, Davidson; The Journal of Behavioral Neuroscience
2008:feb.)
Whoahh...
AND - the rats fed with saccharin showed a decrease in core temperature
which means their metabolism had SLOWED DOWN.
Why?
Apparently low calorie sweeteners may confuse the body by interfering
with the natural ability of the body to use sweet taste to estimate
caloric content.

The body has learnt that a sweet taste means a lot of calories, but
when you eat foods sweetened with artificial sweeteners the body learns
it can no longer use its sense of taste to gauge calories.
The body may be fooled into thinking a product sweetened with sugar has
no calories and, therefore, you overeat.
So - I reached the conclusion that to eat healthily, and slimly, I just
had to forsake cakes and cookies all together.
I was wrong...
Because then I discovered yacon syrup.
Yacon syrup is derived from the Yacon plant, a tubular plant in the
Andean region of South America, and tastes like honey or molasses. I
didn't have any high hopes, but then I found research that seemed too
good to be true.
When yacon syrup was given daily to obese women over a 120 day period
the results were phenomenal. I quote:
"Daily intake of yacon syrup produced a significant decrease in body
weight, waist circumference and body mass index"!(Gentaa, Cabreraa;
"Yacon syrup; beneficial effects on obesity and insulin resistance in
humans.", Clinical Nutrition Journal)
In other words, eating a little yacon syrup every day actually helped
these women lose weight!
Why yacon syrup helps weight loss...
* One reason is because the sugar in yacon syrup is mainly in the
form of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) which cannot be absorbed by
the body, so there is very little elevation of the blood sugar
levels. (FOS is NOT fructose!)
* FOS are also beneficial for the gut flora which helps improve
digestion.
* Yacon Syrup is also naturally low caloric and low glycemic. The
sugars that are not FOS are released slowly into the blood stream.
Yacon Syrup is completely glucose free.
* The above study showed that Yacon Syrup also increases the satiety
sensation, which means you eat less. AND it lowered LDL-cholesterol
levels.
You know what - it gets even better...
Because then I stumbled upon another ingredient that has been proven to
help weight fall off, as well as a lot of other health benefits -
Coconut Oil!

Why Coconut Oil helps you lose weight...
Again, let's go straight to the research:
In a 12-week long study, researchers evaluated the effects of coconut
oil and soybean oil on the waist circumference on 40 obese women, aged
20-40.
Divided into two groups the women received a daily supplement of two
tablespoons of either soybean oil or coconut oil. They also followed a
balanced low-calorie diet, and walked for 50 minutes per day.

The women who were given coconut oil showed a reduced waist
circumference AND an increase in GOOD cholesterol.
The authors concluded:
"It appears that dietetic supplementation with coconut oil does not
cause dyslipidemia [an abnormal amount of cholesterol and/or fat in
your blood] and seems to promote a reduction in abdominal obesity."

Why Coconut Oil is Slimming...
Coconut oil is different to other vegetable oils. Most vegetable oils
consist of long chain fatty acids( LCFAs). LCFAs are hard for the body
to digest since they require special enzymes. They are also stored in
the body as fat.
Coconut oil consists mainly of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) which
are smaller and easier to digest. They are immediately converted into
energy rather than being stored as fat.
So coconut oil really functions as a carbohydrate by giving the body
quick energy, with ONE important exception. Coconut oil does NOT
produce an insulin spike!
The MCFA's found in coconut oil actually help you lose fat, especially
from the belly.
In one study rats fed long chain fatty acids (found in vegetable oils)
stored body fat, while rats fed MCFAs (found in coconut oil) reduced
body fat and improved insulin sensitivity. (Han, Hamilton, et
al;"Medium-chain oil reduces fat mass and down-regulates expression of
adipogenic genes in rats." Obes Res. 2003 June)
Another study found that MCFA's increased energy expenditure and
decreased belly fat in overweight men. 24 overweight men consumed diets
rich in either MCFA or LCFA for 28 days. Those consuming MCFAs lost
more weight and had more energy than those consuming LCFAs. (St-Onge,
Ross et al;"Medium-chain triglycerides increase energy expenditure and
decrease adiposity in overweight men." Obes Res. 2003 March)
The slimming recipe is...
To help weight fall off you should take a couple of tablespoons of
